I was recently diagnoised with fibromyalgia. I had not been feeling well for over a year. The fibro flares have lifted and it’s been 3 months since I’ve had any symptoms. Can the flares be days, weeks, months or years apart?
Yes, I think so, although most people with fibro have it continuously. I’ve had FMS since 1982 and there have been periods of remissions, mostly due to managing my meds and supplements correctly for my body at that particular time. Seems however when you have fibro that the body keeps changing. Personally, I think this is a viral illness with some genetic components. See my FMS story at http://www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm. I also have 100 tips for coping on my site at http://www.fms-help.com. Lots of good info from the viewpoint of a fellow sufferer.
They can be all of the above apart. Usually they will increase and intensify over time however. These flares come and go but will eventually become more common and proliferate. My friend’s mother had this disease and this is what began to happen to her.

I have Lupus and have a friend with fibro. We have learned the hard way that flares are not on a timetable.
